Cyber addiction or excessive use?
The fact that your teen spends many hours in front of various screens does not automatically mean that he or she is addicted to them.
The omnipresence of media in the lives of young people and the great need for control that they feel during adolescence often lead them to spend many hours in front of screens. This can lead to isolation, neglect of schoolwork, refusal to participate in family life, and behaviors that displease parents.
On the other hand, cyber addiction is a rather rare phenomenon that affects only a very small percentage of young people. It is called cyber addiction when:
A young person’s obsession with a game prevents them from functioning on a daily basis.
They neglect their personal hygiene to the detriment of the virtual world.
His or her relationships with the real world deteriorate.
He or she can’t stop playing, even if he or she sees it as a problem.
Only a health professional can determine if this is a case of cyber addiction. If in doubt, it is better to consult a health professional than to continue to have many worries.
